9 Free Ocean Activities for Little Learners

Summer is the perfect time to learn about the ocean and all it’s creatures with your little ones! So, if your little learners are interested in learning more about the ocean, beach, and under the sea life, check out these 9 FREE resources, as well as a few book recommendations for learning about ocean life.

1. Ocean Animals Matching Sensory Bin

If you’re practicing matching skills and new vocabulary with your little ones this summer, this free sensory bin activity provides a hands-on way for your toddler or preschooler to practice identifying ocean animals. This resource includes one matching activity where learners will match the small ocean animal cards to the corresponding strip. They can practice new vocabulary and matching by naming each ocean animal. They can also practice counting to four by counting each little animal card as they match it to the strip with the same ocean animal. Plop the small cards in a sensory bin filled with beans, rice, or mini erasers to add to the fun! 2. Seashell Addition Freebie

This freebie is a great way to practice addition concepts with your little ones! It includes seashell cards with addition sentences, seashell cards to use to represent each addition problem, and mats to show each problem in a hands-on way, using cards or whatever other manipulative you want to use. 3. Ocean Alphabet Letter Puzzles

These ocean-themed alphabet puzzles are a great way for kids to practice letter identification! Your little learner will simply match the capital letter to the lowercase letter to complete each puzzle. CLICK HERE to grab them for free!

4. Ocean Counting Clip Cards

This blog post includes a TON of fun activities and ideas for learning about the ocean with your little one. At the end of the post, there are some great ocean-themed clip cards for your kiddos to practice counting with! Using clothespins, they’ll just count the ocean animal on the card and then clip the correct number to show to total. Learning one-to-one correspondence and counting objects is a super foundational part of number sense. These Boom cards are a fun, simple way to keep building those essential skills this summer! Learners will simply count up how many beachballs they see in the tens frame and then click on the number that shows the correct amount.
