This adorable book is about a little guy who explores all things fall…colorful leaves, happy scarecrows, delicious pies, and lots of other things that make this season so special and fun. With its beautiful illustrations and simple text, it’s a great book for little ones to explore all fall long.

2. Little Acorn

This book follows the adventures of a little acorn as he matures and grows into a huge oak tree! This is a great book to introduce kiddos to the life cycle of a tree, and the illustrations are just SO beautifully done. We’ll read this one to talk about science and how trees grow, what they need, and what the life cycle looks like. Click the picture to grab your own copy of this adorable book!

3. The Busy Little Squirrel
In this story, the leaves have started to fall and the weather is cooling down and little Squirrel realizes that he needs to start getting ready for winter. He doesn’t have time to join the mice or hop with the frogs…but will the busy squirrel ever have time to take it slower? This adorable book includes so many fun things about fall, like the little animals, pumpkins, leaves, apples and other sweet signs of autumn!

4. How Do Apples Grow?

Fall is the perfect time to learn all about apples! This book is a simple way for toddlers to learn all about how apples grow, starting as a seed, growing into a sapling, maturing into a tree, and some ending in applesauce. The pictures are super cute and the simple pages are perfect for little learners.

5. Mouse’s First Fall

This book is about Mouse and Minka venturing out into the leaf-covered world and experiencing all the details about the leaves. They noticed the color, shape, and texture of the leaves. They also demonstrate all the fun things to DO with leaves, like running, jumping, piling, and counting the leaves. This is a great book to use to practice retelling, making connections, and color and counting skills. The pictures are simple and bright and perfect for young students!

6. Hello, Fall!

Oh MY. I’m seriously SO heart-eyed over the illustrations in this book. Lucy Fleming did an absolutely AMAZING job with the colorful, bright illustrations. And, the story is equally lovely! It’s told from the little girl’s perspective as she recounts all the things she and her dad notice that announce that fall has arrived. They see animals preparing for winter, hear lots of leaves rustling about, taste the deliciousness of apples and cider, pick out some great pumpkins, and play together in the leaves. The story wraps up by naming the treasures of fall, including beauty, wonder, and love. It’s a great book to use for a scavenger hunt, to make connections to, and to retell the story of.

7. Leaves

Leaves is a simple story about a young bear who notices leaves falling all around him for the first time. He tries to help the leaves, but gets really tired in the process. So, he fills a hole with the fallen leaves, sleeps through the winter, and is excited to welcome brand new leaves in the spring time!

The illustrations in this book are so pretty and there are very minimal words on the pages, which makes this book really great for little ones to discuss the pictures and make connections to how the bear is feeling about the new seasons he’s experiencing.

8. Apples, Apples, Apples

This story starts on a lovely autumn day, complete with a bright blue sky. The adorable characters Minna, Pop, Mom, and Dad decide to go out to an apple orchard. As they fill their baskets full of beautiful, fall fruit, the farmer teaches them about apples. This sweet story is filled with apple facts, simple activities, and even a new recipe for applesauce.

9. Apples and Pumpkins

This little book is about a young girl who spends a lovely fall day picking apples and looking for the perfect pumpkin. She goes out to a farm to pick apples and a pumpkin, and then helps to carve the pumpkin into a happy jack-o’-lantern! The pumpkin sits on the doorstep for Halloween as her mom hands out apples and the little girl and her dad go out trick-or-treating. The book boasts lovely fall colors and a simple story. It’s a great book to make connections to as you share the little girl's excitement for the fall season.
